Postural stability after total hip replacement

Abstract
Changes in postural stability were recorded before and after total hip replacement using a specially designed computer-assisted forceplate system. Twenty-one patients with unilateral osteoarthritis of the hip were randomised into two groups after operation with either a cemented Charnley or a non-cemented HP-Garches prosthesis. Postural stability was improved in both groups one year after operation and the sway pattern became normal. Les variations de la stabilité posturale ont été enregistrées avant et aprés arthroplastie totale de hanche. Vingt et un patients atteints d'une coxarthrose unilatérale de la hanche ont été randomisés en deux groupes: l'un recevant une prothèse type Charnley avec ciment, l'autre une prothèse type HP-Garches non-cimentée. Les mesures ont été effectuées par un système de plateau de force électronique — tout spécialement dessiné pour cet usage. Un an aprés l'insertion d'une prothèse totale de hanche, les patients des deux groupes bénéficiaient d'une nette amélioration de leur stabilité posturale.Keywords
