Abstract
Measurements of the transport properties of bismuth telluride and its alloys are reported in the literature for single crystal, polycrystalline and hot pressed powder samples. Since these materials are highly anisotropic, the transport properties of these three types of sample are not in general the same under equivalent conditions of temperature and carrier concentration. The author compares theoretically the electrical and thermal conductivities, the Seebeck coefficient and the Hall coefficient of three types of sample so that meaningful comparisons may be made between the various results reported in the literature. The theory presented is applicable, in general, to anisotropic semiconductors having uniaxial symmetry. Keywords
