Effect of Adrenalectomy on the Anticonvulsant Action of Glutamic Acid in Mice

Abstract
The protective effect of glutamic acid on the audiogenic seizure syndrome in DBA/1 mice was shown. To study adrenal involvement 3 groups of animals were employed: (1) adrenalectomized (ADX) DCA glutamic preinjected (2) ADX-DCA-saline preinjected; (3) intact-saline preinjected. No significant differences were found between groups (2) and (3). Group (1) showed significant protection, which was greater in males than in females. The results are in accordance with the hypothesis that glutamic acid gives protection by compensating for a metabolic deficiency in the central nervous system.
