Abstract
Using as thromboplastin Russell''s viper venom (Stypven) fortified with a chloroform extract of acetone-dried human brain tissue, the proconver-tin test (as described by Owren and Aas and modified by Adamis, Sise and Kimball) measures the recently-described Stuart factor (a blood clotting defect). The test showed normal values for normal plasma and serum, proconvertin deficient plasma, and PTC deficient plasma. PTC deficient serum showed 33% of the normal result. Low values were found in Stuart deficient plasma and serum. Following intravenous Warfarin, decrease in Stuart factor appeared more slowly than decrease in proconvertin. Keywords
