Abstract
A special operational forecasting guidance was produced during the field phase of the Beaufort and Arctic Storms Experiment (BASE) with the mesoscale compressible community model (MC2). After a brief description of the model, its performance during BASE is compared to observations. The in-house numerical database assembled at RPN especially for the BASE model is described briefly. Based on the 26 September 1994 precipitation bands event at Tuktoyaktuk, a case study shows the model sensitivity to the ice extent in the Beaufort Sea. Some applications of the MC2 model and its two-dimensional variant are mentioned to show the versatility of the model. Keywords
