Abstract
The same conceptual frame frequently has both constructive and destructive potential. The article discusses the current use of the term “the medical model' in the mental health field. It is suggested that at present the term is frequently taken to represent one pole of two opposing and destructive forces in psychiatry; if adequately defined and clarified, however, it may be a valuable and unifying frame upon which the constructive future of psychiatry can rest. Keywords
