Abstract
Marginalization of a portion of American youth is described as a result of the structure of the major socialization agencies, the family and the school, in contemporary capitalist society. The family and other agencies mediate the process of marginalization created by economy. To eliminate marginalization, social policies must change the economic structure of society. Keywords
