The Effect of Age-Selective Rearing on the Biological Quality of Females of Trichogramma nubilalum1,2

Abstract
Age-selective rearing of Trichogramma nubilalum Ertle and Davis was evaluated as a possible new procedure for incorporation in mass rearing programs of Trichogramma species. Performance characteristics of number of progeny, sex ratio of progeny, adult longevity, percentage host egg mortality, and percentage eggs parasitized the first 3 days were compared on individual females from 4 separate lines which had been established and maintained through 5 generations, and from a stock parasite colony. Parasite-host density tests were made to determine the best conditions for testing individual female performance. The data show no differences in female performance attributable to age-selective rearing; however, the quality of care in handling parasite material appears to be very important.
