Abstract
Striking differences in capacity of the Kupffer cells of the isolated perfused rat liver to recognize and clear B. abortus on the one hand and B. melitensis and S. typhosa on the other have been demonstrated. B. abortus organisms not removed from the perfusate in absence of antibody are promptly engulfed in the presence of antibodies. It is suggested from in vivo experiments involving clearance and distribution of tagged bacteria that striking compartmentalization exists in the RE system. Keywords
