Abstract
Radio contours are presented for the bright spirals NGC 55, 253, 1566, 3521, 4945, 5236 and the bright E and SO galaxies NGC 1316, 1399, 4261, 4760, 4486 and 5128 observed with the Molonglo Cross. The observations of the bright spirals are compared with observations in the northern hemisphere as well as observations of our own Galaxy, the Magellanic Clouds, and spirals such as NGC 300 whose emission is below the sensitivity limit of the instrument. In the case of the edge-on spirals NGC 253 and 4945, in particular, no evidence was found for a halo component similar to that postulated for our Galaxy.
