Abstract
Two blocks of mammary tissue were removed from each of 110 female rats. One was exposed to 800 R of X-rays under in vitro conditions while the other was sham irradiated. Both were separately grafted subcutaneously onto the back of the animal from whence the tissues came. All grafts were recovered up to 10 months later. Sixteen of the irradiated grafts developed mammary neoplasia while only one of the sham-irradiated grafts developed mammary neoplasia.
