Extradural Hematomas

Abstract
A study was made of 25 consecutive extradural hematomas treated at a military hospital over a 10-year period. All cases were tabulated as to age, nature of injury, condition on admission, x-ray findings, interval until first change in symptoms, interval until operation, status at time of operation, findings, and results. Four patients died. Three of these were moribund when admitted; the fourth deteriorated rapidly to a terminal state while under careful observation. Once the diagnosis is suspected, rapid action is needed. It is important to search further for these clots in spite of negative results from classical trephinations. Angiography and ventriculography are sometimes helpful.
