Victims of the State: Genocides, Politicides and Group Repression since 1945

Abstract
The collective victimization of ethnic, religious, national and political groups by the state is discussed in this paper. It analyzes information on more than 60 communal and political groups which have been victimized in genocides and politicides since 1945 and about 90 communal and regional groups which in the late 1980s were the subjects of systematic political repression or discrimination. The prospects that the latter groups will be the victims of future geno/politicides are assessed. The uses of these datasets for future research on the causes of geno/politicide are considered in the conclusion.
