Abstract
Production from certified plants and their progeny may be maintained at a significantly higher level than that from noncertified stock by treatment with malathion for strawberry aphid (Pentatrichopus spp.) control. This effect may last as long as 3 years, although yields drop progressively after the first year and are significantly lower than that for the first year. Where certified stock is not protected by a spray program, yields are significantly curtailed in the first year and subsequent crops are no better than those from noncertified stock. The results indicate that annual plantings of certified virus-free stock together with adequate aphid control are essentials to maximum production. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
