Self-paced sexual behavior in the female rat.

Abstract
Female rats in natural estrus were observed in a situation wherein a choice would be made between sexually active males and an escape compartment free of males. All Ss showed systematic pacing of sexual contacts, staying in the compartment longer after ejaculations than after intromissions, and longer in the later portions of the test period. "It is suggested that the sexual motivation of the female rat differs from that in the male in that an aversive, as well as an approach, component is present." From Psyc Abstracts 36:01:3EF10P.
