Abstract
Almqvist F, Bredenberg P, Suominen I, Leijala H. Social kompetens och beteendeproblem bland skolbarn och barnpsykiatriska patienter - en empirisk studie med CBCL. To meet the needs for new epidemiological and clinical knowledge in child psychiatry, a research programme has been established to improve the standardized aspects of individual assessment in congruence with the developing taxonomic procedures (ICD and DSM). Achenbach's CBCL is one of the methods that has been developed for use in the Finnish language. Empirical results are presented that indicate the usefulness of parent CBCL total behaviour problem score as a global index of need for psychiatric help. The total score for social competence may be a valid measure of the child's personal skills, competence and self-esteem. The obtained mean scores for social competence and behaviour problem in the age groups 6-11 and 12-16 are similar to the corresponding data reported earlier by Achenbach et al. (4) and Verhulst (9).Keywords
