Abstract
Research shows that unmet needs of old people include intimacy and for some sexual expression, desire for a dependency relationship with younger kin, inclusion in a peer group, and participation in a family life with peers. The following innovations now being developed, principally by young people, were speculatively explored for their adaptability to meet these needs: nonmarital cohabitation, homosexual or lesbian companionships, group marriage, communes, and comarital contacts. Each innovation might be adapted to meet certain needs, depending on the attitudes of both the old and the public.
