Abstract
Although Donovania granulomatis has been reported to grow only on material containing egg yolk, this organism may be grown when a low oxidation reduction potential is obtained by use of a thioglycollate medium, and when a factor in the enzymatic digest of bovine albumin or soya material is added. Acid hydrolysis destroys this 2d factor, believed to be a peptide. These findings, together with previously published serologic relationships between D. granulomatis and members of the Enterobacteriaceae indicate that the normal habitat of D. granulomatis is in the intestinal tract. Keywords
