Abstract
Cyclo-heptenylethyl barbituric acid produced relaxation of the excised segments of intestine and uterus of cats and rabbits. The intact intestine of dogs (Thiry-Vella loop) and the intact uterus of anesthetized rabbits, cats, and dogs responded to the drug by a decrease in the tonus and a lessening of the rhythmic contractions. In the cats an increase in the general tonus of the uterus was observed on some occasions. In only 3 out of 79 injns. of ultra-short, short and intermediate acting barbiturates, in 19 dogs with Thiry-Vella loops, was there a suggestion of an increase in the general tonus of the intact gut following the primary depression. Keywords
