Abstract
The biological, veterinary and medical literature pertaining to Cheyletiella on dog, cat and domesticated rabbit is reviewed. Cheyletiella yasguri is present on dogs, C. blakei cats, and C. parasitivorax on domestic rabbits ( Otyctolagus cunicultts ). The discrimination of the last 2 species is extremely difficult. Infestation with Cheyletiella is sometimes associated with a powdery, mealy dandruff on the back of the host, but at other times no macroscopically visible cutaneous changes are seen. The life cycle is completed on the host. Control of these mites can be effected with almost any insecticide. Man is an accidental and transient host for Cheyletiella . A papular dermatitis may result that clears up after treatment of the primary host. Keywords
