Abstract
The intensity of background events as a function of energy over the range 20–200 keV has been calculated for an actively shielded hard X-ray telescope when operated at balloon altitudes. The shielding system is designed to suppress events derived from photons which undergo Compton-scattering in the main detector crystal. The calculated noise spectrum is compared with the background measured by the hard X-ray experiment on the HEAO-1 satellite. Keywords
