Abstract
The extracellular fluid volume of the myocardium was determined in nephrectomized cats using sucrose as a reference material. This was allowed to equilibrate for one day before analysis. The chloride space, sodium space and an extracellular fluid volume based on the Conway-Boyle hypothesis were also determined. The sucrose space was smaller than, but bore no consistent relation to any of the other volumes. The sucrose space increased following an injection of epinephrine. Keywords
