Abstract
This report provides a survey of the role of applications of mathematics in mathematics education in the Federal Republic of Germany. A brief general presentation of more recent developments on the levels of the debate on mathematics education, of the curricula, textbooks, and of school practice (§1) is followed by a presentation of some current projects which are concerned with the development of curriculum materials for a mathematics education oriented toward applications (§2). Together with extensive literature, the report presents some more important German theoretical conceptions and approaches pertaining to the integration of applications of mathematics into school mathematics (§3), and identifies some trends and problems in the publications containing examples with applications of mathematics in German literature on mathematics education (§4).Keywords
