Abstract
Processes of face-to-face interaction can be investigated in a quantitative way with careful attention to methods of data collection and analysis. This article describes an approach to quantitative research on interaction, viewed as a rule-governed phenomenon. The regularities observable as a result of the operation of rules are of a sort not frequently analyzed by investigators of interaction. Keywords
