Abstract
Captafol, a fungicide, is a common cause of dermatitis among workers in the timber industry. In a survey of 14 timber treatment plants, 23% of 133 workers exposed to captafol gave a history suggestive of occupationally induced dermatitis. Although allergic dermatitis can occur, irritant dermatitis is far more common. Attention to plant and personal hygiene will reduce the prevalence of captafol dermatitis significantly and relevant recommendations are given.
