Abstract
Two strains of Actinomyces were isolated from soil which produce substances that appear to be different from previously described antibiotics. One of the new substances has been named actinorubin, the other lavendulin. A description of the 2 strains of Actinomyces is given as well as conditions of growth for maximum production of the anti- biotic substances. The bacterial spectrum of actinorubin and lavendulin is given. Escherichia coli developed a much greater resistance to streptomycin than to actinorubin or lavendulin. This publication has 11 references indexed in Scilit:
