Abstract
Seaweeds are an important component of marine ecosystems and are also used by man for a variety of purposes. Intelligent management and cultivation of seaweeds could greatly increase current production. Although genetic development of seaweeds is only beginning, application of modern and traditional techniques could yield rapid progress. Keywords
