An Abnormal Lipoprotein in the Serum of Uremic Patients Maintained on Chronic Hemodialysis

Abstract
Premature coronary heart disease resulting from accelerated atherosclerosis ranks as a major cause of death among uremic patients who are undergoing chronic hemodialysis (1). Increased concentrations of serum triglycerides (2) and low serum concentrations of highdensity (HD) lipoprotein-cholesterol have been reported in patients with end-stage renal disease treated with chronic maintenance hemodialysis (3, 4). The authors of these reports have suggested that the premature cardiovascular morbidity and mortality seen in this group of patients may be due to the decreased serum concentration of HD lipoprotein or an abnormal biochemical composition of the lipoproteins. We report here the analysis of serum
