Abstract
The problem of liquid is studied under realistic conditions using the method of correlated basis functions. Two derivations are given of a formula for the energies of low states, including second-order interaction and orthonormalization effects. The ground-state energy, quasiparticle energies, and the quasiparticle interaction function are evaluated and used to compute the compressibility, velocity of first and zeroth sound, effective mass, magnetic susceptibility, coefficient of thermal expansion, and coefficients of thermal conductivity, viscosity, and spin diffusion. Results are compared with experiment and with earlier theoretical calculations.
