Abstract
Clinical and postmortem material was studied in a classic case of Werner''s syndrome. 62 cases in the literature were critically reviewed. Nine reports contained appropriate metabolic data. The only previous postmortem study was 15 years ago. Conclusions based on these data appear to exclude the endocrine glands as etiologically fundamental and would suggest that Werner''s syndrome be classified as an hereditary abiotrophic disorder of connective tissue, the basic etiology of which remains to be clarified. Of further interest was the 9.7% incidence of malignant tumors, especially sarcoma, a point not hitherto noted. Keywords
