Abstract
Studies of a representative number of collections of T. favoginea, T. affinis, T. persimilis, and T. verrucosa indicate that there are only two valid species in this group, T. favoginea and T. verrucosa. It is demonstrated that the characteristics used to differentiate among the first three species are sufficiently inconstant and indistinct to justify uniting these species under the name T. favoginea (Batsch) Pers. A new description of the latter species, incorporating the variations represented by "T. affinis" and "T. persimilis" is given.
