Abstract
ALTHOUGH vitamin D deficiency diseases have long ceased to be a problem to the physician, many related diseases such as familial hypophosphatemia, renal osteodystrophy, pseudo-vitamin D deficiency, corticoid-induced osteomalacia, vitamin-D-resistant hypoparathyroidism and others immediately suggest that much is left to be learned concerning the action of this fat-soluble vitamin. This has dramatically been borne out in the past decade, in which new and revolutionary concepts have emerged in our understanding of the metabolism and function of vitamin D.With highly radioactive vitamin D preparations it has been demonstrated that the vitamin is converted to at least three biologically active metabolites. . . .Keywords
