Abstract
The CLOZE procedure, which research has shown to provide a valid measure of reading achievement, requires language production skills and reading strategies not yet available to elementary school English-second-language (ESL) pupils who are not literate in their vernacular. A modified CLOZE procedure, designed to overcome this problem, was found to have high concurrent validity with traditional vocabulary and reading measures.Keywords
