Abstract
Analytic solutions of the laminar, gravitational film flow of liquid on vertical, circular, cylindrical surfaces were obtained. These solutions lead to the introduction of a new dimensionless number which characterizes the flow and is a function of the dimensionless film thickness. The results were compared with that of Nusselt’s film flow equation and show that the Nusselt’s equation gives a good approximation when the dimensionless film thickness is small.
