Immune Response in the Hamster. VI. Antibody Response in Polyoma Oncogenesis

Abstract
Sera were obtained from neonatal and young-adult hamsters that had been given injections of polyoma virus or polyoma tumor. The immunoglobulins containing tumor (T) and virus (V) antibody were detected by indirect fluorescent microscopy with Auorescein-labeled antisera specific for hamster 7Sγ1-, 7Sγ2-, γA -, or γM-globulins. γA antibody was never found and a 7Sγ2 antibody response was always detected. 7Sγ1 anti-T was found in the two situations associated with tumor growth, i.e., after virus inoculation of neonates and tumor injection of adults. Because hamster 7Sγ1 globulins do not fix complement like the 7Sγ2 globulins, the presence of tumor antibody in the 7Sγ1 globulins may have an enhancing effect on tumor growth.
