Abstract
Transfer of solar energy to coastal water, in the Gulf of Biscay in summertime : remote-sensing study. HCMM digital products have been processed and five HCMM typical scenes of good quality have been studied because they revealed cold water areas near islands and shoals, in Summer, along the south Brittany shore. Tidal currents in shallow water destroy the seasonal thermocline and turbulence is responsible of these well-mixed cold water areas, separated from hot stratified offshore water by a transitional zone where thermal gradients are high. Satellite measurements are compatible with ground truth data analysis.
