Abstract
Managing a professional organisation needs a different approach. Output cannot be clearly programmed and specified because it consists of staff using their training, values and professional instincts to find innovative ways of reaching organisational goals. This does not mean that we should give up on performance measurement Professionals should ensure that policy is formulated in the light of a full understanding of operational needs. Keywords
