Abstract
Temporal integration in pigeons was examined in the context of a procedure which required the subject to integrate information from successively presented stimuli in order to make a correct choice. If two previous stimuli presented successively on the centre key of three response keys were the same, a response to the left key was reinforced, whereas if they were different, a right‐key response was reinforced. Thus a correct response could only be made on the basis of abstracting a relationship between temporally separated stimuli. Not only were the pigeons able to integrate temporally, but also, their ability to do so decreased as the blackout interval separating the successive stimuli was increased. Keywords
