Advocacy: a specialist practitioner role

Abstract
This article explores the nursing role of advocacy, tracing its development within nursing theory and the refinement of its definition. The nursing profession's ability and suitability to fulfil this role is then questioned and the need for the specialist nurse practitioner to fulfil the role of advocate is highlighted.Keywords
