Abstract
Diabetes induced by alloxan in 2 strains of rat was without significant effect on the rate of disappearance of tracer phosphate from the plasma or the distr. of the tracer between exchange-adsorption on bone and transport into the soft tissues. Slight decreases in the turnover rates of the labile P of ATP-ADP and of glucose-1-phosphate were found in the livers of the diabetic animals. No evidence was found for any equalitative derangement of phosphorylations in this organ. The inorganic P content of the liver was increased about 50% above normal, and the concns. of ATP-ADP and glucose-1-phosphate were decreased somewhat below the values obtained on normal animals of the same strains. The data obtained indicate that there is no disturbance of phosphorylat-ing mechanisms in the liver of the diabetic animal which is of sufficient magnitude to account for the disturbances in carbohydrate metabolism present in diabetes. Keywords
