Abstract
Lung carcinoma is the leading cause of death from cancer among men and women in many Western countries.1 Mortality due to lung carcinoma in the United States exceeds the death rate from breast, prostate, and colon cancer combined.2 Treatment results for lung carcinoma have remained disappointing and only marginal gains have been made during the last 30 to 40 years. Five-year survival is now approaching 14% given the best available diagnostic and treatment modalities.3Keywords
