Abstract
The linear ideal MHD stability theory of a class of realistic resistive time-dependent Z-pinch equilibria is presented. Comparison of this theory with the results of a linearized resistive initial-value code demonstrates the validity of the former at high temperatures. The effects on stability of the magnitude of the thermal conductivity and the amount of current flowing in a skin at the pinch surface are considered. Keywords
