Abstract

Irradiation of 2-phenyl- and 2-(p-chlorophenyl)-Δ²-thiazoline-4-carboxylic acid in acetonitrile leads in each case to the corresponding thiazole, thiazoline, and benzonitrile. 2-Phenyl-Δ²-thiazoline is transformed photochemically into the corresponding thiazole and nitrile. A mechanistic discussion is presented.
