Panniculitis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Abstract
Three cases of systemic lupus erythematosus and panniculitis illustrate the inflammatory, sclerotic, and ulcerative clinical features of the skin lesions. Histopathologic diagnosis is characterized by poikiloderma, lymphocytic inflammation, hyaline necrosis of collagen and fat, and focal calcification. The lesions respond to antimalarial and corticosteroid therapy, and full-thickness skin grafts are well tolerated. The differential diagnosis includes other forms of panniculitis and localized scleroderma.
