Abstract
The basic characteristics of a gas-tunnel type plasma-jet torch has been experimentally investigated. The pressure along the central axis of the gas tunnel could be reduced to a very low value. The plasma jet produced in this low-pressure gas tunnel was longer than a conventionally produced jet, and had a positive volt-ampere characteristic. The potential gradient reached more than 40 V/cm and the energy density was estimated to be more than 106 W/cm2.Keywords
