Cytochemical Staining with Oil Red O and for ? -Glucuronidase in the Diagnosis of Acute Leukemia

Abstract
Bone marrow aspirates from 30 cases of acute lymphocytic leukemia and 21 cases of acute non-lymphocytic leukemia were stained with oil red O and for β-glucuronidase. Globular oil red O positivity was seen more frequently in cases of acute lymphocytic leukemia, and granular oil red O positivity was observed in a greater percentage of cases of acute nonlymphocytic leukemia. Diffuse activity or blocks of β-glucuronidase positivity were found with equal frequencies in cases of acute lymphocytic leukemia and acute non-lymphocytic leukemia. Both stains are considered to be of little value in the classification of acute leukemia.Keywords
