Abstract
This pioneering article reported the first discovery of an imprinted gene. Through a series of elegant genetic experiments, Kermicle determined that R, a gene conferring anthocyanin pigmentation to seeds in maize (Zea mays), is fully expressed only when inherited maternally. Kermicle's experiments demonstrated that the expression of R does not depend on gene dosage or cytoplasmically deposited factors, but simply on its parental...Keywords
