The prompt lepton cookbook

  • 26 October 2000
Abstract
We review the calculation of the prompt lepton flux produced in the atmosphere by the semileptonic decay of charmed particles, describing side by side the many intermediary ingredients, used by different authors, not only for the charm production model but also for the atmospheric particle showering process. We provide guidelines to further works on high-energy neutrino phenomenology, in the form of closely related parametrizations of these ingredients, and we compare their relative importance to the final results. We highlight the impact of the prompt lepton calculation upon cosmic neutrino telescopes.
