Abstract
The dosimetric features of alanine-based ESR detectors in high energy electron beams used in radiotherapy are considered. The experimental data were obtained using a magnetically swept beam produced by a linear accelerator. The calibration of the dosemeters was performed at energies of 10-28 MeV using the standard ferrous sulphate solution (Fricke) as a reference dosemeter. The alanine-paraffin detectors were produced at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità. The results show that alanine dosimetry has a good precision (reproducibility) of about 1%, no significant energy, dose rate and angular dependence and a linear dose-response relationship in the 10-50 Gy range. The 5 mm long alanine detectors were found to be the most suitable for carrying out in vivo dosimetry on patients undergoing electron beam radiotherapy. Keywords
