Abstract
Interviews with older prisoners at a major state penitentiary were conducted to better understand the impact of social arrangements on the aging experience. Much of what is viewed as part of normal aging does not take place in the prison setting. Chronological age does not possess much salience for prisoners, and even some of the effects of environmental stress on appearance are mitigated. Keywords
